Michelle Herbut, who graduated Bachelor of Industrial Design in 2005, designed the Botanic Bench for a final year University project to suit a specific site in South Australia. Inspired by the growth and organic nature of the plants at the Botanical Gardens, she wanted to simulate the bench ‘growing’ out of the ground and took advantage of the resulting curve to add another possibility to the ways you make use of the bench, by using it as the much sought backrest that nature so often omits. Street and Park Furniture, with whom Michelle currently works, were approached to help with production and manufacturing issues.
